Michael Kors set to open at Norfolk Premium Outlets Friday

NORFOLK — A new fashion retailer is coming to the city’s outlet mall — just in time for the holiday season.

Norfolk Premium Outlets announced this week that Michael Kors would be opening its doors on Friday.

“We always strive to bring an enhanced experience to our guests who want to shop and save in style,” said general manager Chris Wayman in a press release. “We know our shoppers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Michael Kors, so we are very excited they’re opening with us.”

With stores located all over the world, Michael Kors is a world-renowned name in the fashion industry with products for women and men including footwear, handbags, clothing, accessories.

The award-winning designer brand will open a location between the Under Armour and Carter’s storefronts and is expected to feature discounts up to 65 percent off items.

The addition of Michael Kors to the outlets’ roster is following the recent openings of True Religion Outlet, Crocs and A|X Armani Exchange.

Michael Kors’ opening comes a few weeks before the Norfolk Premium Outlets hosts its Holiday Celebration from Nov. 10-11.

The event is slated to feature a tree lighting, live music, appearances by Santa Clause, and more. The Holiday Celebration will also kick off a toy drive from Nov. 10 to Dec. 1 for Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides support to local military families.

Why Michael Kors ended up in the fashion business. American fashion designer, Michael Kors grew up around a “family of fashionistas” and he has hinted his career in the fashion business was inevitable because all of his relatives were part of the business too. The 58-year-old who founded his eponymous label in 1981 – has admitted a career at the helm of the fashion business was inevitable for him as most of his relatives were “obsessed with clothes” and involved in the industry in one way or another.  Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ about his upbringing and what influenced him, the creative mastermind said: “I grew up in a family of fashionistas. My mom modelled, my grandfather was in the textile business, I had an uncle who was a manufacturer everyone was just obsessed with clothes.” And Michael believes his career happened because he was in the “right place at the right time” as he used to design garments for a New York boutique where celebrities shopped.  He explained: “We were just in the right place at the right time. So everyone from Goldie Hawn to Diana Ross to Jackie Kennedy, they were all clients.” The mogul hasn’t only worked with Goldie Hawn, but he has also partnered with the 71-year-old actresses daughter, Kate Hudson, on various projects over the years, including his latest philanthropic venture the Watch Hunger Stop campaign in support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). And Michael is honoured to have joined forces with the 38-year-old star on the campaign, which encourages people to take a photograph of them wearing a t-shirt he designed with the emblem #WatchHungerStop for the organisation that leads to 50 meals being donated to those in need.  Speaking about his charity work, which saw him and the ‘Almost Famous’ beauty jet to Cambodia with WFP to see the impact of their project, Michael said: “In this instance, every time you post something, we’re donating 50 meals. “I knew she’d be so great to be someone we can partner with in getting the message out there and she’s been remarkable.”

Kay Burley has 5 outfits in her new £9,000 wardrobe – and they’re all from the same designer

You know what they say new season, new wardrobe and one woman who’s taking that mantra seriously is Sky News presenter Kay Burley .

The newsreader unveiled her new clothes on her Instagram account a week ago and she’s been showcasing her outfits to her 5.7k followers.

And all of her latest haul is from New York designer Michael Kors , racking up to a staggering £8,644.95.

Despite Kay seeking style advice on social media, we think she looks incredible in all her ensembles.

Ahead of Thursday’s live show, where Kay celebrated her 30th year as a Sky News presenter, she debuted the black Pebbled crepe belted sheath dress, £1,586.94 . It features a v-neckline, a flounce hem and a wide adjustable belt to cinch her in at the waist.

On Wednesday, Kay went bold in a gorgeous pink stretch-wool dress, £1,500 , channelling this season’s fluted sleeve trend.

Tuesday’s show saw her ask her followers whether she should wear cornflower blue button-detailed wool-blend crepe dress, £1,320 with its co-ordinating jacket, £835 .

Personally, we think it’s look great with or without, but you can see the button detail better when the dress is worn alone.

Michael Kors Buys Jimmy Choo for $1.2 Billion

Michael Kors is buying Jimmy Choo for 896 million pounds ($1.2 billion), both brands announced on Tuesday. Under the deal, each shareholder of the high-end footwear label will receive 2.30 ($3) pounds per share in cash, WWD reports.

The acquisition is a response to the decrease in sales for upscale brands, as mall shopping has “declined sharply,” reports The New York Times. Though e-commerce sites, fast-fashion brands, and even luxury labels like Gucci continue to thrive, brands in the “accessible luxury market,” such as Kors, are struggling. The Jimmy Choo deal comes two months after Coach made a similar move by buying Kate Spade for $2.4 billion.

Jimmy Choo makes for an interesting pair with Kors, as the former is known for its sky-high stilettos and glam, crystal-embellished designs, while the latter gravitates towards down-to-earth leather goods and ready-to-wear.

But Kors thinks they make a good match. The company told WWD that it plans to incorporate the “experiences, infrastructure and capabilities that it has developed over the course of its own worldwide growth as a luxury fashion brand to support the growth of Jimmy Choo through retail store openings and further development of its online presence.”

Jimmy Choo will continue to function “as it does today” with Pierre Denis as CEO and Sandra Choi as creative director, so don’t expect any big changes in the company or its designs. Meanwhile, Kors plans to add an “expanded assortment” of products to its own repertoire.

This year’s t-shirt will be given away—no purchase necessary—at select Michael Kors stores around the world, and if you’re in NYC stop by the Soho store today from 12-2pm to see the artist himself drawing live on the windows. “I’ve always loved creating ‘brushed’ text with black ink, so for the campaign design I decided to work with the ‘Watch Hunger Stop’ text and somehow introduce a figurative element of artwork within these series of words,” explains Evernden. “The idea occurred to me to make the ‘O’ in ‘STOP’ a loose ink interpretation of the Earth, and elevate its presence by using a blue aqua colored ink. The Earth is an important artistic icon for the campaign as it represents a global effort.”
